Immanuel Lutheran Church, since 2000, has operated a fund to assist those in need in the Watertown School District. In rare situations, assistance has been provided to non-residents.
Effective 12/1/2006, the responsibility for this fund was transferred from the pastor to Immanuel's Social Concerns Committee. Individuals/families seeking assistance are seen by a person from the Social Concerns Committee who has a background in social work.
Funds are not given out without an interview. Attempts are made to verify a person's situation. Except for gas cards, checks are always made out to a landlord/service provider. Money is never given directly to an individual.
Six Watertown churches, as well as several community service organizations, support Hometown Missions. The top three needs of families are rent assistance, energy assistance, and gas vouchers. Please contact the church office, if you wish to donate towards this mission.
